Rooted in faith. Grounded in community. Find your place at St. Matthew's.
Find Your Place
At St. Matthew's, we believe that faithful Christian life is not meant to be lived in isolation. From the historic pews of our Meeting Street sanctuary to the midweek rhythms of prayer and study, there is a place here for you — wherever you are in your journey of faith.
We invite you to take a first step. Whether you are new to Charleston, returning to the church after years away, or simply longing for something deeper, the ministries of St. Matthew's are designed to welcome you in and walk alongside you.

Children's Ministry
On Sunday mornings, children from infants through fifth grade are welcomed into a safe, nurturing environment where the great truths of Scripture are taught with care and age-appropriate creativity. Our check-in process is simple and secure, giving parents peace of mind from the moment they arrive. Little ones at St. Matthew's are not an afterthought — they are full participants in the life of this congregation, shaped by the same faithful Word proclaimed from our pulpit.
Sunday Morning Worship
Each Sunday at St. Matthew's, worshippers gather for services steeped in the beauty of historic liturgy and the power of faithful, expository preaching. Under the ministry of the Rev. Dr. James Whitfield, the morning services at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM invite the congregation into a reverent encounter with the living God — through Scripture, song, prayer, and the sacraments. From your first Sunday, you will find a community that takes worship seriously and receives one another warmly.

Wednesday Evening Prayer
Midweek life at St. Matthew's centers on the Wednesday Evening Prayer service, held each week at 6:00 PM. This quieter, more intimate gathering offers the Charleston community an opportunity to pause, bring the burdens of the week before God, and be renewed through Scripture and corporate prayer. It is a cherished rhythm for many members — a pastoral counterpart to the fuller worship of Sunday mornings.
